We all encounter problems in life, but there are times when we need more support making change. Therapy can be a way for people to get to know and express themselves. This inner exploration and expansion can happen through dialogue, movement and play.
Individual Therapy
If you are having a hard time managing relationships, transitions, thoughts or feelings, therapy can be a place where you can explore these challenges to better understand them and work towards solutions. Our current difficulties are informed by past hurts and traumas. Understanding this linkage brings to light what has shaped us and the repetitive patterns that get in the way of achieving our goals. A strong therapeutic relationship is essential. Feelings and thoughts that may arise in our work together help us understand ourselves and the ways in which we relate with others. Through this exploration, we may find a kind of freedom and ease in knowing ourselves and connecting with our lives in new ways.
Couples Therapy
For work with couples, I provide a nonjudgmental and compassionate space utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I have a special affinity for working with couples navigating interracial/ethnic and cultural differences, across all genders and sexualities.
Brainspotting / EMDR
Perhaps you’ve noticed when someone is sharing something personally intense that their eyes point in a particular direction. Brainspotting and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) are brain and body based therapies that target somatic trauma responses in order to process them. Different eye positions refer to parts of the brain that hold memories, thoughts, emotions, images, and body sensations. By focusing on "brain spots” or utilizing bilateral stimulation, we can work towards accessing images, memories, and the emotions associated with them. When there’s an understanding of the issues, but the feeling in the body is still the same, these therapies can help.
Play
Expressive arts, drama, art and other forms of play are avenues to connect with children, adolescents, and families when using words is not easy. Parents may find these creative modalities offer multiple access points for self-understanding, expression, and engagement.
Neigong and Internal Arts
Neigong (內功) is an ‘internal skill’ that can be cultivated through practice. Improved energy, flexibility, balance, and coordination, and reduced chronic pain are among its many benefits.
